Places to Drink One-dollar Coffee in L.A. (Watts): LocoL

A couple of weeks ago I was on a decluttering kick and decided to tackle my magazine pile. In the process of the game of keep/toss, I may have gotten sidetracked by one or two mags that I had not yet read. And while I was flipping through the April issue of Los Angeles Magazine, something magical happened… I came across a story about the $1 coffee being served at Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson’s newish fast-food restaurant LocoL. $1 coffee. I think this should be a lesson to us all about the importance of (1) decluttering…

Q&A with Mike Costaney – Roastmaster at Booskerdoo Coffee Co.

June 1, 2016 – A few months ago, a very sweet friend sent me a pound of coffee from a local coffee roaster in her neighborhood: Booskerdoo Coffee Co. I loved it! Fast-forward to a few weeks ago, when I had a chance to interview Booskerdoo’s roastmaster, Mike Costaney. Mike is super cool, and he loves loves loves coffee (maybe as much as me.) 😉 If you want to try Booskerdoo for yourself, you can order online, and they will ship it to you on the same day they roast it. Click here for my interview with Mike…

Places to Drink Tea in Los Angeles: {Alfred Tea Room}

May 17, 2016 – West Hollywood, CA – All my tea-loving friends, it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for! Alfred Tea Room is open! Just across the street from the original Alfred Coffee & Kitchen on the super-swank Melrose Place, Alfred has a new (almost) tea-only shop.

It is pink. It is gorgeous. It has Nitro Chai on tap.

It also has iced Matcha with almond milk (pictured above). Both are delicious, just like you would expect for $5-7 per drink. I went for the Nitro Chai because it just sounds really badass. It was delicious…

Video: Coffee 101 – Varietals and Processing – featuring Ben from Hidden House Coffee

A couple of weeks ago, I had a [play]date with my dearest childhood friend, Korrie. I have known Korrie since the 4th grade, and because we’ve been friends for so long – almost two decades – 😉 – Korrie knows how much I love coffee. She is also a good friend, so she suggested we check out Hidden House Coffee, a very cool little coffee roaster in the historic part of San Juan Capistrano. When we got there, the first thing we had to do was get coffee (der). Korrie had a latte and a scone (I don…

Q&A with YaWei Lin of The Taste and See Shop in Vancouver

This interview is with YaWei Lin, who co-owns with her brother, Jerome, The Taste and See Shop (formerly Innocent Coffee) in Vancouver, BC. I was lucky enough to meet up with YaWei in-person at her new coffee shop in the super cool False Creek neighborhood of Vancouver. Q: When did you first discover coffee? In college. Not that it was good coffee, but I was using it to stay awake. I first discovered good coffee in 2005 when I was living in Los Angeles at the time. There was a Peet’s coffee in Pasadena, and back…

Q&A with Greg Thomas of Trystero Coffee

This is the third in a series of interviews with people who work in the coffee industry. Going forward, I’ll be posting an interview with someone in the coffee world once a month. I like learning how people ended up working in this business, and this gives me an excuse to ask all the questions I want. 🙂 If there is something you’ve always wanted to know about the world of coffee, post your questions in the comments or email me at anne@annelovescoffeemore.com, and I’ll do everything I can to get you the…
