Holiday Challenge: The Twelve Days of Kindness

What if, instead of the Twelve Days of Christmas, we had the Twelve Days of Kindness? What if this holiday season in particular, when people might be needing a little more love and tenderness than usual, we each decided to set an intention of performing a daily act of kindness for 12 consecutive days? It’s not hard to imagine the benefits of such an endeavor. We would be making life just a little easier for our fellow humans. And, if even for a moment, the world would be a little softer, a little nicer, a little more welcoming. But…

“Happy” Election Day! (If I could, I would insert the eye-roll emoji here.) šŸ˜‰

It’s finally here… thank God. Never has an election had more of an impact on my overall level of stress. Never has there been a better time for me to practice gratitude and notice/accept my feelings. šŸ™‚ If you feel the same way, I want you to know you are not alone, my friend. I know who I want to win this thing, but to be perfectly frank, I am just going to be relieved when it is finally all over.

That said, no matter…

At long last…Chemex

Chemex. It has been around for decades… seven to be exact. It is a pour-over style non-porous glass container coffeemaker that Peter Schlumbohm invented in 1941, and, fun fact, it is one of very few drip-method coffee brewing devices on permanent display at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. In my opinion, it is the best way to brew coffee. Here’s why:

(1) It looks damn good. The Chemex has an angular somewhat “cold” design comprised of three sexy components: glass, wood, and leather, giving it a contradictory aesthetic that is at once sterile…

How to Be Brave (Hint: Do One Small Scary Thing)

Yesterday, my dad forwarded me a video of skydiver Luke Aikins, who just made history for the highest jump – 25,000 feet – without a parachute. If you haven’t seen the video, please do yourself a favor and watch it. Now. Here it is.

I had actually already seen it, but I love this sh*t so much, I watched it again. While I did, I noticed I was feeling a kind of exhilaration and joy. And because I am “the introspective” type [understatement of the year], I started to think about why… I mean, I wasn’t the one…

The Ask Challengeā€¦ or how to have the best chance of getting what you want

Last month, I travelled to the East Coast for a friendā€™s wedding. On the morning I was headed to the airport, I had convinced myself that 45 minutes would be enough time to shower, wash/dry my hair, change the sheets on my bed, water my plants, and wash the dishes. It was total madness. There was no way in hell I was getting any of that done in less than an hour and half, and even though I cut every corner I could, and I still was late leaving for the airport.

That was the first in series…

An $80 Bag of Beans…Just Why? I’ll Tell You…

Hi. I’m on vacation this weekĀ soĀ I was planning to phone-in this week’s blog post, but then I was checking out George Howell Coffee in Boston’s new Godfrey Hotel, andĀ I came across an $80 bag of beans. Yes, you read that right… a G.D. $80 bag of coffee beans. So this post is going to be about the La Esmeralda Mario Carnaval Panama beans because they are $80/bag,Ā which seems crazy to me, so I wanted to know why. I mean,Ā I’m sure this coffee isĀ amazing – transformative evenĀ –Ā but unless…
