At long last…Chemex

Chemex. It has been around for decades… seven to be exact. It is a pour-over style non-porous glass container coffeemaker that Peter Schlumbohm invented in 1941, and, fun fact, it is one of very few drip-method coffee brewing devices on permanent display at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. In my opinion, it is the best way to brew coffee. Here’s why:

(1) It looks damn good. The Chemex has an angular somewhat “cold” design comprised of three sexy components: glass, wood, and leather, giving it a contradictory aesthetic that is at once sterile…

Places to Drink Coffee in Los Angeles: Blacktop Coffee

Blacktop Coffee, in the Arts District, downtown Los Angeles, is simply awesome. As I have said before, I love G&B Coffee, but I think Blacktop might be my new favorite DTLA coffee shop. I could not resist… I asked if they had any extra bags I could buy and, lucky me, they did! The beans were as amazing as I had hoped, and I ordered a…

Places to Drink One-dollar Coffee in L.A. (Watts): LocoL

A couple of weeks ago I was on a decluttering kick and decided to tackle my magazine pile. In the process of the game of keep/toss, I may have gotten sidetracked by one or two mags that I had not yet read. And while I was flipping through the April issue of Los Angeles Magazine, something magical happened… I came across a story about the $1 coffee being served at Roy Choi and Daniel Patterson’s newish fast-food restaurant LocoL. $1 coffee. I think this should be a lesson to us all about the importance of (1) decluttering…
